Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino surrendered to police on Tuesday to begin his prison sentence for tax evasion.

In January of last year, Sorrentino pleaded guilty to tax evasion on $9 million in income and was sentenced to eight months in prison, two years of probation, 500 hours of community service and $133K in penalties. His brother Marc Sorrentino, meanwhile, was sentenced to two years.

After being sentenced, he married his longtime girlfriend Lauren Pesce in November. The pair shared the holidays with friends and family and rang in the New Year in style. His Jersey Shore co-stars and BFFs have stood behind Sorrentino .

In an exclusive statement to ET, Pesce says: “Thank you everyone for your love and support. Today Mike and I begin to put this chapter of our lives behind us. I couldn’t be more proud to call him my husband. As he says, the comeback is always greater than the set back! Love, Lauren Sorrentino.”
