UPDATE: Highway 1 near Revelstoke reopens after avalanche

REVELSTOKE — UPDATE: According to Drive BC, the section of the Trans Canada Highway (Highway 1) between Revelstoke and Golden previously closed due to an avalanche has been reopened to traffic. 

Given the backlog of vehicles waiting for the road to be cleared, traffic will be slow to start.

PREVIOUS:

A section of the Trans Canada Highway is closed this afternoon due to an avalanche while crews work to clear the road.

A photo shared with CFJC Today shows a white vehicle stuck in the path of the avalanche, but witnesses say no one was hurt.

Acccording to Drive BC, there is avalanche control work underway between Highway 23; Highway 23 North and Highway 95 for 147.4 km (Revelstoke to Golden).

That work is expected to continue until at least 4:00 p.m today (Mar. 17).

EMCON Selkirk division also says the highway will be closed 46 km east of Revelstoke while avalanche control is conducted.
