Housing affordability driving skilled workers out of Vancouver

VANCOUVER — Statistics show that Vancouver — and B.C in general — are losing skilled workers to other parts of the country.
Finance Minister Carole James says there’s no doubt there’s a brain drain in Vancouver and in other parts of the province, and that “crisis” isn’t too strong a word to describe the situation.
Leonard Catling, with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, says people between 21 and 25 often come to Vancouver to pursue an education or start a career, but leave when they get older.
Andy Yan, director of the City Program at Simon Fraser University, says Vancouver attracts people early in their careers, but it has a problem keeping them because they can’t afford to buy a home in the city’s sky-high real estate market.
