KAMLOOPS — RCMP are asking Kamloops residents to be kind and rewind their memories to determine if they know anything about a robbery at a downtown business last night.

A man walked into Movie Mart near Fourth Avenue and St. Paul Street at about 8:50 p.m., brandishing a knife.

The man jumped over the front counter and forced the employee to open the cash register, grabbing cash and taking off on foot heading west.

Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says there are some similarities to a robbery at the Sahali 7-Eleven store early Tuesday morning, but right now, it’s not believed to be the same suspect.

“It is similar, except this suspect had a knife, whereas the one at 7-Eleven did not, and the description is slightly different. At this time, there is no reason for us to believe they are related,” said Shelkie.

Suspect description:

  • 5’ 9” – 5’ 10”
  • 140 – 150 pounds
  • Darker-coloured skin
  • Wearing: blue baseball cap with an orange brim, a black bandana, light blue hoody with black sleeves with a large DC logo on the front, black sweat pants and blue and black gloves

Shelkie says it’s rare to see two business robberies in one week.

“Luckily, robbery incidents like this are relatively rare in Kamloops,” said Shelkie. “What is most fortunate is that rarely is there are a robbery where someone is injured. That is the situation in this case as well.”

Anyone with information on the Movie Mart robbery is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
