2018 best year on record for Kamloops Airport traffic

KAMLOOPS — A new passenger record has been set for Kamloops Airport.

Roughly 351,631 people flew in and out of YKA in 2018, compared to 314,364 in 2017.

Managing Director Heather McCarley says that 10.6 per cent increase can be attributed to a number of factors.

“I believe that the aviation industry has seen some good growth over the past number of years, and 2018 is no exception,” she explains, “but in addition, we also had not just a strong finish for 2017, and good growth in 2018, we also had support from the Air Canada Rouge direct service to Toronto, and Calgary, additional frequency on WestJet.”

December was also the best month on record for the airport, with 35,132 passengers. That was boosted by YKA’s highest 4th quarter (October through December) ever, with 94,710 travellers, up 9.8 per cent from the previous year.

McCarley says they expect that success to continue in 2019, with the return of Air Canada Rouge direct seasonal service to Toronto in June.
