PM Trudeau to host public town hall at TRU on Wednesday

KAMLOOPS — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be coming to Kamloops on Wednesday, and after a Liberal fundraiser he’ll be hosting a town hall at Thompson Rivers University.

Kelowna-Lake Country Liberal MP Stephen Fuhr says on his website that the event is open to the public, but RSVPs don’t guarantee access to the event.

The Prime Minister’s Office tells CFJC Today that this event kicks off this year’s town hall tour for Trudeau. As part of the tour, the Prime Minister will travel to different regions across the country to connect and engage directly with Canadians.

“Similar to past years, it will offer an opportunity for Canadians to discuss a wide range of topics, and how we create more jobs and grow the economy to benefit all Canadians,” the PM’s press secretary says.

The event will be hosted at the Old TRU Gym at 7:00 p.m., and doors will open at 5:00 p.m.

You can RSVP here, but the event is still on a first-come, first-served basis.

Dennis Giesbrecht, the director for SHARE BC, says in a news release that natural resource advocates have invited Trudeau for an 11:00 a.m. brown bag lunch in Kamloops — the same time Trudeau’s $300 per plate Liberal fundraiser starts at the Coast Hotel in Kamloops.

Giesbrecht says in the release that resource workers will be holding their luncheon outside the facility.

“Most resource workers cannot afford $300 to access our Prime Minister, so we’ve invited him to join us outside for a brown bag lunch,” he says. “We’d really like an opportunity to talk about public policy that supports our resource communities.”

Giesbrecht adds that resource workers want to see movement on pipeline construction.

“We’ve phone the Prime Minister’s Office and invited him to our brown bag lunch,” he says. “We have one here with his name on it.”
