KAMLOOPS — A woman who owned several horses seized by the Kamloops SPCA last year is expected to head to trial on animal cruelty charges.

Susan Peters, born in 1964, has been charged with one count each of causing unnecessary pain or suffering to an animal, and failing to provide necessaries for animal. BC SPCA spokesperson Lorie Chortyk says these charges are in relation to nine neglected horses seized from an East Shuswap Road property in November last year.

Online court documents show Peters was charged in May of this year, and she’s slated to stand trial in Kamloops Provincial Court in February.

Chortyk says a co-owner of the horses was also charged in May, but online court documents do not show anyone else had involvement.
