VERNON, B.C. — A sentence has been handed down for a Vernon robbery suspect who was apprehended by one of the store’s co-owners.

33-year-old Heron Taylor was given a two-year prison sentence for robbery, disguising his face with intent, and two other charges in Vernon Provincial Court Monday.

Dan McLaughlin from the BC Prosecution Service says after receiving credit for time served, Taylor will have to serve another 263 days behind bars of new time.

Taylor brandished a framing hammer to demand money from a woman at Charlie’s Grocery on 32nd Avenue near Alexis Park Drive back in January, but the store’s co-owner, Tom Maxwell, who had been at the back of the business, collared the suspect outside the store, and held him until police arrived.
