Sun Peaks Resort ready for opening weekend

SUN PEAKS, B.C. — Sun Peaks Resort is putting the final touches on runs today, as they gear up to be the first resort in B.C open for skiing this weekend.

Chief Marketing Officer Aidan Kelly says they’re expecting a few thousand visitors to come up for the kick off.

“There’s always pent up demand for people that want to get up and start sliding on the snow and have a bit of fun,” he says. “It’s always kind of an exciting weekend, and always a pretty good turnout to get started.”

Snow levels should work out well he says, having looked at the alpine areas yesterday.

“Crews are up there prepping everything. We’ll have between 15 and 20 runs open, and the skiing up in the alpine like I said, will be pretty good. Lower elevations, we’re still waiting for some more snow.”

He says work is still underway on the rest of operations, with the tube park set to open around Dec. 10, and the new Orient chair projected to open the week before Christmas.

Kelly adds, season passes are now at regular price, however for opening weekend and through early next week, all lift tickets will be 50 per cent off.
