Grass fire breaks out near Chase

CHASE, B.C. — A grass fire has broken out in windy conditions near Chase.

According to the B.C. Wildfire Service, the fire ignited near Niskonlith Lake just west of Chase, and quickly grew to more than 100 hectares.

The Adams Lake Indian Band is assisting the Wildfire Service in trying to tackle the blaze.

Chief Fire Information Kevin Skrepnek says the fire is not threatening any properties, but motorists will be able to see it clearly from Highway 1.

He adds nine wildfire personnel have been dispatched to fight the blaze and notes it’s the biggest in B.C. so far this year. No word yet on what sparked it but Skrepnek says it was likely human-caused.</p
