KAMLOOPS — Police will be on hand, but keeping a hands-off approach at this afternoon’s Kamloops 4/20 celebration.

Cpl. Shelkie says the annual marijuana smoke-in has evolved from the protest it once was.

“I think it is more of a demonstration than a protest. I think they are out there expressing themselves, and we do have freedom of expression in Canada, and we respect that. We just want to be there to make sure that everything stays respectful,” said Shelkie.

Shelkie notes officers will be watching for impaired drivers after the event wraps up.
