The district of Lillooet lies to the east of the Coast mountains, and along the Fraser River in the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, about a two-hour drive from Kamloops. The town itself has a population of about 2,500, but the actual region it serves is much larger, including nine area First Nations, and residents of SLRD electoral areas. Lillooet’s economy is far from booming, but as Tara Gostelow reports, the town’s citizens are optimistic about tourism and agricultural opportunities.
