UPDATE: Police say medical emergency caused downtown crash

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE 8:51 A.M.: Police now say a medical emergency caused a late-night crash downtown.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says officers attended a single-vehicle crash on Lorne Street at 7th Avenue, where they found a van had veered off the road and clipped a hydro pole.

The female driver was the only occupant of the vehicle. She was unconscious and transported to hospital.

Lorne Street was partially closed until roughly 1:20 a.m.

RCMP say only one vehicle was involved.

It went off the travelled portion of the roadway.

Lorne Street was closed for a couple of hours while the investigation proceeded.

No indication what might have caused the accident.

The accident happened around 10:30 PM.
