Sun Peaks expecting one of its busiest season openers

SUN PEAKS, B.C. — Powder enthusiasts better arrive early.

Sun Peaks Resort is expecting one of its busiest season openers tomorrow.

“All three mountains are open, trails are open, the snow is great, you can’t ask for anything better this time of year,” said Chief Marketing Officer Aidan Kelly.

A big part of Sun Peaks enthusiasm is the amount of snow on the mountain.

“For the first part of November we had perfect snowmaking weather, which allowed us to make a ton of snow. We’ve also received good snowfalls right down to town so when you put those two together we’re on track for one of the best openings we’ve ever had.”

Mid-mountain is currently measuring 72 centimetres of snow and alpine 87 centimetres.

It’s a stark contrast to this time last year when the season opener had to be pushed back due to next to no snow on the mountain.

Kelly says they’re expecting around three-thousand snow boarders and skiiers for tomorrow’s season opener, most from the greater Kamloops region as well Vancouver and Seattle.

The resort opens at 8:30am.

80 runs and seven lifts will be open.
