KAMLOOPS — A reduced wildfire risk in the region means the Kamloops Fire Centre will lift its Category 2 and Category 3 open fire bans at 5 p.m. Friday (Oct. 13).

The rescinding of the ban applies to all BC Parks, Crown lands and private lands in the region but does not apply within the boundaries of a local government that has forest fire prevention bylaws and is seviced by a fire department.

Other bans, including the use of campfires, sky lanterns and fireworks, were lifted on Sept. 22 in the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Anyone wishing to light a Category 3 open fire must obtain a burn registration number ahead of time by calling 1-888-797-1717. A burn registration number isn’t needed to light a Category 2 fire.
