Wildfires claim over 230 structures in TNRD

KAMLOOPS — This summer’s devastating wildfires damaged or destroyed 234 structures in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.

The TNRD has completed a summary of known structure loss and damage suffered over the last couple of months due to the Elephant Hill, Little Fort Complex and Martin Mountain wildfires.

Of the 234 structures lost or damaged, 215 were completely destroyed and 19 suffered minor damage. The Elephant Hill fire was the most destructive destroying a total of 130 homes. The Little Fort Complex fire and the Martin Mountain fire destroyed one home each.

“The areas hardest hit by the Elephant Hill wildfire this year included Boston Flats with the loss of 45 residences, the Loon Lake community with the loss of 40 residences, and the Pressy Lake area with the loss of 33 residences,” reads a statement from the TNRD. “The property damage and loss is not inclusive of all of the damage that was suffered throughout the region to important infrastructure, such as hydro and telecommunications.”
