Smoky skies still a problem, but lightning danger drops off

KAMLOOPS — While the skies were looking pretty decent earlier this morning, smoke is starting to return to the valley, and  Environment Canada has kept the Special Air Quality statement in place for most of the southern half of the province, including the South Thompson.

As winds change, forecasters are suggesting the smoky conditions could change fairly quickly, and people shouldn’t think we’re out of the woods yet, especially with the Elephant Hill fire slowly creeping down the north side of Kamloops Lake.

There is a chance of showers in the forecast today, and while it won’t do much to impact the wildfires, the cooler temperatures and highere humidity will aid firefighters and hopefully mitigate the winds.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Lisa West says weather patterns should remain relatively stable for  at least the next couple days.
