KAMLOOPS — The drive is called ‘Gloves with Love’.

A Kamloops woman is reaching out to the public to donate new or used baseball gloves to go towards a baseball school in Mexico.

Debra Rossen and her son Joss met former Major League Baseball player Shea Hillenbrand at a baseball camp in the states last year.

Rossen says Hillenbrand was instrumental in building her son’s self esteem and wanted to give back.

When she heard he had recently started up a baseball school in San Rafael Mexico, she says it was the perfect opportunity.

“Some kids don’t show up because they don’t have a glove, so that’s why they’re not coming out,” said Rossen. “If we can send gloves and that will get them out, that’s what I’d want for any kid.”

Rossen says she hopes to collect around one hundred gloves in the next week.

Donators are asked to sign their glove with their name and a short, positive message.

Pickups are expected to take place sometime next week.
