KAMLOOPS — Think before you go.

That’s the message Alan Hobler with Kamloops Search and Rescue is stressing to the public to help ensure your next camping trip is a safe one.

Whether you’re planning on camping in a provincial campground or in the backcountry this summer, Hobler says it’s crucial people complete the following checklist before hitting the road.

  • Visit adventuresmart.ca to ensure you’ve packed the proper equipment for camping activities (i.e fishing, hiking, boating etc)
  • Leave a trip plan with a family member or friend detailing the location of your campsite and length of time you’ll be away
  • Bring a cell phone or other communication device
  • Pack a jacket in case of unexpected weather changes
