KAMLOOPS — Construction of the Westsyde Pool is one step closer to being complete.

City of Kamloops Capital Projects Manager Darren Crundwell says the buildings new roof has been installed.

The pool closed in June 2015 after moisture was discovered seeping into the roof.

A materials mix-up between D&T Contracting and the city halted work in December.

Crews resumed work about a month and a half ago.

“The issues we have with the roof have been addressed,” said Crundwell. “All the new roof decking has been put on as of Thursday. Next week they’re going to start the roofing membrane, so just finalizing or finishing the complete roof structure. Everything is going as planned.”

The pool is scheduled to re-open in September.

Along with a new roof, the City ays the new centre will feature half a dozen new weight-lifting equipment pieces along with some other modern changes.

“There will be some new features on the inside that will make people happy,” added Crundwell. “It’s obviously a lot brighter, it was pretty dark inside before, so there’s natural light now. It will look a lot different.”
