BARRIERE, B.C. — The Barriere Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire around 12:30 Sunday morning.

Assistant Deputy Chief Drew McMartin says, upon arrival at 727 Barriere Lakes Road, the occupants had safely evacuated but the home was fully engulfed in flames.

“We saw flames coming from the back right corner of the house and up through the roof. The flames were shooting about 20 feet in the air,” says McMartin.

The department responded with two engines and had mutual aid, but the home was totally destroyed in the fire.
