Opponent groups call on EAO to pause Ajax review

KAMLOOPS — Opponent groups are calling on the Environmental Assessment Office to pause the KGHM-Ajax review period until the company releases a financial feasability study

The company plans to release that feasibility study in about 40 days.

John Schleiermacher of the Kamloops Area Preservation Association says that will cut the EAO’s public comment period in half.

Schleiermacher says he suspects the company has ulterior motives.

“You need some time to actually review the application,” says Schleiermacher. “I think the proponent is maybe trying to hide some information or giving the public and the EAO inadequate time to review the feasibility study prior to the public comment period expiring.”

Schleiermacher notes the information contained in that feasibility study would indicate whether the company would have the resources to deal with any potential environmental disasters.
